❤️🔥 Join us July 25th, 2026 for our Heart of the Fire Horse Clinic Series: Part Three “The Ancient Art of Mounted Archery” with Iron Orchid Equestrian Arts and the Colorado Mounted Archers. Hosted by Arcana Heritage Horses in Platteville, CO.
This will be a five-hour, hands-on experience to learn the historical riding practice of archery—an art deeply woven into horse cultures worldwide. Participants (and their horses) will be introduced to techniques and mechanics of the bow from the ground, and then have the opportunity to refine and challenge their skills from horseback. The practice of mounted archery can build trust in and deepen the power of your partnership with the horse, while heightening your own focus and balance.
🏹About our lead clinician Madison DeCook:
Madison has spent the last 25 years riding and training horses, as well as practicing various forms of martial arts. When she started practicing Horse archery in 2021, it was still a hard to come by sport in the region, and her passion led her to building an archery club and training program for the community. Madison’s academy “draws inspiration from the intuitive development of French Classical Dressage and the physical awareness of Martial Arts”, and travels the country to compete at tournaments. Registration is $250/person for the day with lunch included. All archery equipment provided. Open to all levels, minimum age is 8 but it is recommended that participants be able to pull a 20lb bow.
During the clinic day, we will also have a short presentation and meet-and-greet of our rare Akhal-Teke horses–a breed which has endured since the very beginnings of equestrianism. They are an ancient breed carrying millenia of human-horse stories. The Akhal-Teke has also been called a “fire horse” due to its natural metallic coat and warrior nature, so they are the perfect horse for the occasion.
